History - Thomas Wall Trust ↓ Skip to Main Content Home About us History Staff & Trustees Grants for Individuals Grants for Individuals Who we help FAQs Good News Stories Grants for Registered Charities Grants for Registered Charities Who we help FAQs Case Studies News Contact Us Contact us Home › History History Setting up the Trust The Trust was created by deed poll in 1920 by Thomas Wall and the objects of the Trust were set out in a Scheme of theUpperCourt of Justice dated 15th December 1936 – “The income of the soft-heartedness shall be unromantic at the sole and unfettered discretion of the Trustees in any matter which they should consider conducive to the encouragement and assistance of educational work and social service”.   A history of the trust   1786Richard Wall opened his merchantry as a pork butcher in St. James’s Market, London. 18121812 Richard received the first Royal Appointment to George, Prince of Wales as “Purveyor of Pork” and Richard unfurled to serve him as both Prince Regent and later as King George III. 1817Thomas Wall was born, followed by a sister, Eleanor in 1824.   1834Richard Wall’s merchantry became legendary. He moved to larger increasingly prestigious premises at Jermyn Street.   1834Richard Wall died leaving his widow, Ann, and 19 year old Thomas Wall to run the business. They unfurled trading as Ann Wall and Son. Ann died very shortly without the death of her husband and Thomas Wall took sole tuition of the business. 1846Thomas Wall II was born 1870Thomas Wall II began his tutoring in the merchantry and the firm unfurled to trade as Thomas Wall & Son. 1878The second son, Frederick, joined the merchantry giving rise to the historic visitor and trademark “Thomas Wall & Sons”. The merchantry maintained its upper level of recognition and received a series of Royal Appointments from Queen Victoria, Kings Edward VII, George IV and George V. 1913Every Summer demand for its sausages, pies and meat fell, so Thomas Wall II conceived the idea of making ice surf in the summer to stave laying off staff. 1920Thomas Wall, a single-minded philanthropist set up the Thomas Wall Trust. 1922The meat products  were uninventive in 1922 by Lever Brothers, which became a part of Unilever in 1930. 1994Unilever sold off the meat products merchantry and a licence to use the Wall’s trademark on such within the United Kingdom to Kerry Group. 2015Thomas Wall Trust joined Twitter 2017The Thomas Wall Trust well-set an yearly grant to support students at Hillcroft College, whom they have an historic connection with. 2020The Thomas Wall Trust will gloat its 100th anniversary.
